Encouragement

At times like these, it’s important to remember that there are a lot of people working hard so that our children are given the best education possible. Within these two pages, we have reproduced just some of the many messages of support and offers of practical help and donations that we’ve received over the past few weeks. The list is the best we could do before going to print.
We were so very sad to hear of the terrible fire at the Grange primary School.

Our thoughts and prayers are with all of you at this time.

We know this tragedy will not stop the great spirit of the Grange Primary School's wonderful staff and student body! All of you, and Hartley, have helped so much to bring smiles to all of us during this deployment of the USS John C. Stennis.

Our hearts go out to you, but we know you are a strong group and you will rebuild and go on from here.

Please let the Ångels know how things are going, we really care about all of you so much!

Is there anything we can do to help?

Sincerely in friendship,

My wife and I are expatriates living in Canada, I am originally from Glasgow and have a grandson serving on a U.S. carrier and a few months ago he brought your wonderful web pages to our attention.

Since then we have followed the exploits of Hartley with much joy and anticipation. It was with much horror and regret that we received the news of your tragic loss and wish to convey our condolences to all associated with this fine institution.

From Noel Buerke,

Principal, Doubleview Primary School, Perth, Australia.

What a terrible catastrophe.

We here at Doubleview are all very, very sorry to hear of the sad news of the fire. You, the children, teachers and parents must be absolutely shattered.

I do understand how you all must be feeling - when I was principal at Donnybrook District High School we had a fire that wiped out the entire Home Economics wing. Teachers and children lost years of work, files, folios and personal items. It was terrible.

Please tell everyone that we are thinking of them.

Regards, Noel.

From Phil Balcerzak
Command Master Chief
Norfolk Naval Station.

I am so sorry to hear of your tragedy. You have my deepest and sincere sympathies.

I know, deep in my heart, that you will rebuild and make it better. I feel for the children and teachers. So many memories gone.

The Hartley ‘pup’ you gave me still watches over my office in my absence, I guess I could hire a watchman and return him, but only if you need him. He has a place in so many peoples hearts, as do the children who made our relationship possible. Give them my best.

They will all be in our prayers.

God Bless,

Phil

What an awful thing to happen!

Your loss is so great, but now so are your opportunities.

To offer you a helping hand, I’ve posted a large box of sheet music and music books that I think are appropriate for your children. I hope it will go some way to help.

Anything else we can do - just let us know!

As the parent of a Stennis sailor, and a follower of Hartley's adventures, I was really saddened when I learned of your major loss.

Having spent a good part of my life as a fire-fighter, I can really feel the heartache and sadness you, your staff and students are sharing. Especially the students, they really don't understand these things. It sounds like you have a strong parent/student support group who will be helpful during your recovery period.

Like the Phoenix, though, I believe that you will rise from the ashes to immortality!

As I say on the Stennis bulletin board,

Love and Hugs
