Hartleypoems

For the past three years we have published a book of poems within school. This began when we had poet Rowena Sommerville in school as an Artist in Residence.

Each year a team of Y6 pupils have looked at examples of poetry written by children across school. They have acted as editors and have chosen poems to include and the categories to put them in. Another team have word processed the poetry ready for printing.

For the first time this year, the Y6 team were also responsible for printing and binding "Hartlepoems Three", so that it would be cheaper for children and parents to buy.

Below are a few examples taken from our latest publication.

I Dream of a place by Terri Bowman Y6

I dream of a place, Where the sea swiftly laps the shore, where flowers gow,

I dream of a place, Where the sun beams, and the butterflies flutter by.

I dream of a place, Where flowers sway, and the birds sing.

I dream of a place, Where people relax, and the sky gleams.

I dream of a place, Where stars glimmer and the grass sways.

I dream of a place, Where people slowly dance, and peoplelove.

I dream of a place, Where snow falls and snowflakes lay.

Thunder by Jodie Harris Y6

Thunder is a loud, raging bull,

Charging around the sky,

It lumbers around with nothing to do,

Rumbling and tumbling around on the clouds.

Thunder is quick, quick like a bull,

Clouds shake when it snorts.

What is Red? by Callum Hegarty

Red is an apple, Red is a car,

Red is a clock, Red is a fire,

Red is a tomato, Red is a box.

One Sunny Day In May by Rachael McDonald Y1

One sunny day in May, We went to lie on the hay,

And went to play with the spray, And went to play again and shouted HOORAY!

Animal Poem by Adam Suggit Y2

Pigs run in the sun, Tigers roar, rabbits snore.

Lions leap, kangaroos sleep

Crocodiles peep.

A Reptile Rap by Jodie Kerr Y5

You better be clear, If you come around here,

To watch you step, Because the beast,

Is near .............your beer!
