Creative Partnerships Programme

Creative Partnerships is a government funded national initiative that aims to give school children across the country the opportunity to develop their own creativity in learning and to participate in cultural activities. The programme is taking place in 16 areas of the country of which Tees Valley is one. There are 4 schools in Hartlepool participating. The initiative helps schools to develop partnerships with organisations such as theatre companies, dance troops, musicians, filmmakers and artists.

Grange school has worked on several projects which have been funded by Creative Partnerships over the last two years.

Professor Brainstorm

This term children from Reception to Year 6 developed their scientific knowledge through watching Professor Brainstorms Amazing Sound & Light Show.

The Children made high and low sounds using plastic piping
Do you think the long piping made the high or low sounds?
Dr Brainstorm made high and low sounds using different lengths of hose pipe with a reed
Dr Brainstorm made the colour wheel turn around fast using a hairdryer. This made the colours all merge into one making it turn white!

Children in Year 3 visited the Forum Theatre to watch a performance of Charlotte 's Web a key literacy text.

Creative Partnerships funded the transport costs to take Year 3 to visit the Roman Fort Arbeia at South Shields to take part in their Roman Literacy Day. This supported the childrens work in both history and literacy.

Our Murals

Children in Year 4 are currently working with an artist two days a week on a project which will result in murals to enhance our playground.

Photos to follow!

The Planetarium

Children in Reception and Key Stage 1 are having Science workshops which include an inflatable planetarium. These workshops are based on the book ‘Whatever Next' by Jill Murphy and support the science and literacy curricula.

This is the planetarium

This experiment was to find the best material to keep the teddy bears head dry.

The children listened to a story called 'whatever next' by Jill Murphy.

They discussed what animals come out at night and what noises they make.

They found that the plastic coated material was the most waterproof and would be the best to use for a hat.
We used a rocket launcher to fire rockets across the hall. We tested which went further by changing the angle of the launcher.

Music through ICT

Children in Year 3 and Year 6 are working with Mr Smith, our Music Coordinator, on a Music through ICT project.

Drama Project

Mark Labrow, a professional dramatic artist, works in school one day a week. He is currently working with children in Year 4 on creating stories through drama.

The group created a piece of writing, each member of the group contributing one line at a time.

The houses were on fire,

Because of the madness between them,

Scared, the people screamed and ran,

The village was at war with its neighbour.

The people of Greenwood were about to attack,

Two people from different villages,

Friends, torn apart,

Their parents told them they couldn't meet,

Sad, broken, feeling blue,

They made an agreement.

Never to see each other again.

The boy packed his bag, gathered food and left in the dead of night.

The children are thoroughly enjoying the drama classes

In the summer term some children in upper Key Stage 2 will be working with a theatre company called Dodgy Clutch. We have been chosen to be one of five schools in Tees Valley to work with this company of performers from the UK and South Africa .

Watch for more projects and photographs of our children's participation.
