Hartley visits St. James' Park - home of the mighty Newcastle United Football Club
True stories from those who were
lucky enough to keep Hartley company.....
A Trip to St James Park
The mini bus left school at 9.15 a.m. and we arrived at the ground at 10.05. We were allowed to park in the official car park at the ground. When we got out of the bus some photos were taken near the statue of Jackie Milburn – one of the most famous footballers ever to play for Newcastle.
We then went into the main reception area of the club and were greeted by an official.
All the children – and Hartley were given a Newcastle baseball cap and the we set off to have a look around the ground.
We went to places where most supporters of the club
will never see, including sitting in Alan Shearer’s place in the changing room
and in the lounge where the people who pay a lot of money to join go on match
days
After we had finished our tour of the ground we went back to the reception area where the club handed our six very well behaved children goody bags.
We then set off back to school and arrived back at lunchtime.
The children who went were a credit to Grange School and were very well behaved from setting off to arriving back.
Hartley’s Day Out
On Friday 29th January I was invited to a day out to St James Park at Newcastle
We went by mini bus and when
we arrived at the stadium we were met by Mark and Bob who showed us around the
football ground.
They showed us the changing rooms, showers and launderette where they clean all the muddy football strips.
My favourite room of all must be the trophy room.
After the amazing route around the stadium we went around the pitch talking to Mark and Bob asking about the players. The photos were taken.
We couldn’t go on the grass because the grounds men
were cutting it ready for the match the next day.
When we arrived back at reception we were given a goody bag with lots of memento’s – and after all the excitement we returned to school for lunch.
I had a great day at St James Park

Hartley’s day out
On Friday my brother an I and four other children
were picked to go to St James Park – Newcastle United’s Stadium.
We went around the stadium with Hartley and Bob and Mark. We saw the cleaners washing the football strips.
We had our photos taken with Alan Shearer’s shirt and with Hartley around the pitch.
We got taken up to the stands and had our chance to sit where
the mangers sit.
We also went to the trophy room and we saw two magpies on their stands. Magpies are the nicknames of Newcastle United.
We went Back to the reception and were presented with a goody bag which included an autograph book a ruler some black and white balloons, football stickers and a hat.
Hartley got a hat too. Then we set off back for school. We had a lovely morning . Thank you for taking me.

On Friday I won a trip to Newcastle football club – which I enjoyed very much.
First we went to the statue of Jackie Milburn a famous football
player to have our photos taken then we went around the pitch and up the stairs
to where all the people sit.
We went to the changing rooms where the team gets ready before and after a match.
We held Alan Shearer’s shirt and I had my photo taken.
Then we saw the restaurant where the supporters can have something to eat.
We went to the cup room and there were loads
of cups on the walls.
When we had finished we were given lots of goodies. I enjoyed myself very much.

Hartley, and the children and staff of Grange Primary School say a big "Thank You" to Newcastle United and to their I.T. Manager Mark Anson for making our visit possible.

Celebrity Auction - March 1999
What a night! We laughed and laughed with, and at, our 'auctioneer'
- North East Comedian Frankie Baggs, photographed here with Margaret Elliott
a 'friend' of the school and Louise Conway our Headteacher.
Frankie's skill and the generosity of the many people who donated items for auction helped us to raise around £1300 on the night! (around $2000 U.S.)
We received many items from famous people,
T.V. stars, authors, our Member of Parliament Peter Mandelson, and even the
Prime Minister himself - Tony Blair!
The highlight of the night though was the prize draw, there was only one prize for this, a 'Royal Doulton' crystal decanter donated by H.R.H. Queen Elizabeth the Queen Mother.
We sold many tickets for this, but the lucky winner was a shocked Mrs. Wilson, photographed here with her beautiful prize.
