Jam

European Food Tasting Day

We decided to taste some food from Sweden, which we managed to get from Ikea.

Here is some 'Rosehip soup'.  Yes... we were a bit surprised as well.  It was a bit like a smoothie but we weren't very keen on it.

Lingoberry jamcrackers

We tried lingoberry jam on crackers.  The jam tasted quite sharp and sour but some of us quite liked it.  The crackers were quite dry and hard

trying jam
Here, one of the girls is trying the jam and crackerbread..  She seems to be enjoying it.
      meatballs

These are Swedish meatballs and these were very popular.  The school football team polished them all off before they went for training

Here is one of our more reluctant tasters, who promised she would try something new this year.  We took a photo to prove that she did!

Trying a meatball
ginger biscuits

These ginger biscuits were also very popular, although some people found they tasted quite strongly of ginger and other spices.  Here is one of the boys trying one.  He looks happy.

dill crisps
Finally, we tasted some Dill crisps.  The herb was quite strong but there weren't any crisps left at the end of the tasting session so obviously quite a lot of us enjoyed them!

We are studying Victorians in our Humanities lessons, so we went on a fact-finding mission to look at parts of Victorian Hartlepool.

Here is one of the views from Christ Church which was built by Ralph Ward Jackson

This is a view looking down Church Street.  In the bottom right hand corner you can just about see a statue of Ralph Ward Jackson

Here is the right hand side of Church Street.  The building in the middle is called The Ward Jackson but it used to be a bank.

The red brick building in the background is Middleton Grange Shopping Centre.

craft1craft2

We had a go at some Victorian Crafts.  Here some of the boys are making 'whizzers'.  If you get the string in just right, they make a good noise when you pull them

Craft5craft6

These children are making fancy Victorian picture frames, using gold and silver card, sequins and dried spaghetti.

craft11

We are making rocking horses here and needed to concentrate very hard as we cut them out.

craft15

We carefully drew some Victorian people to paste into our picture frames.  Hardly anyone seems to be smiling on a Victorian picture or photograph.  Some of them looked very strict.

Here we have been using flags to send messages just like the Seaton Carew life boat would have done in Victorian Times

lifeboat

In Hartlepool museum, we created a drama about a lifeboat rescue.  If you look carefully, you can see the lifeboat men with their hats coming to rescue the passengers from a ship in danger on the rocks.
