Hartley joins the Navy - the US Navy!!

February 17th was a cold, wet and windy day in 1998. Sailors learn to live with the weather - whatever the weather may be, but Hartley was really glad he had a nice warm furry coat!

You see, today was the day that Hartley joined the navy!

Our Headteacher, Mrs. Conway, was a VIP guest at Norfolk Naval Station, in Virginia USA, and as a token of friendship and a good luck mascot, she presented Hartley, our school mascot to what was then the newest aircraft carrier in the fleet - the USS John C Stennis (CVN74)

Mrs Conway was escorted around this great ship by MM1 Dave (Nick) Nichols - and Hartley and he were buddies immediately, which was fortunate for Hartley, because he seemed to get himself into trouble quite often, and as you'll see, like a true friend Nick always turned up in time to help.

Most of the links on the left relate to each month of the Stennis' maiden voyage around the world - there's some great stories there.

The Stennis Angels is the group name for the friends and family of the crew who get together on line and in real life to do what they can to support the ship.

Also, you have the opportunity to play battleships against 'Admiral' Hartley - see if you can beat him!
