Information for Parents/Carers

School Closure

Reminder: School will be closed for the foreseeable future, apart from providing care for children who meet the guidelines set out by the government. If your circumstances have changed and you qualify as a key worker,  please ring school to discuss this.

Information regarding remote learning

All children should have received an initial pack of work, which includes log in details for key websites.

A key communication tool in light of the updated situation will be Class Dojo.

If you haven't already, please can you sign up to this so we can keep you updated with messages and ensure we have a two way communication tool. Even if you have requested paper learning packs, please do keep up to date with Class Dojo for key messages and communications.

Free School Meals update 17.4.20

I have finally been able to access the Eden Red site and order the vouchers. Whoop.. Whoop!
I have sent an e-mail to those of you who have confirmed these with me with further information. For those who are eligible but I have not been able to confirm e-mail addresses with you, I have placed a school order or e-codes and will be in touch when these have been processed next week.

While we await the  final implementation of the voucher scheme, we will  continue to provide a packed lunch for all children who are entitled to a Free School Meal due to their circumstances (registered on our list) next week as well (wb 20.4.20). This does not include the Universal Free School Meal offer.

Please come to the community room external door between 12- 12.20pm.  Please do not come if your family are self-isolating. We will allow your child’s packed lunch to be collected by someone who can support you if you are in this situation.

All identified children who are in school due to them requiring essential child care will receive meal in school if the time they are in falls in a lunchtime period. A breakfast provision offer is also being supported by Greggs for these children.

Letter from the Secretary of State for Education

Letter from the Secretary of State for Education

We are very proud to have received the letter below from the Secretary of State for Education and the Minister of State for School Standards, praising Grange Primary School for the excellent progress our pupils make. These progress scores place us in the top 3% of schools nationally.  Read the complete letter below and the press release here -

Attendance

Good attendance, and being on time every morning, is very important.

Good attendance means that children get the best out of their education. This not only results in strong learning and progress - it boosts confidence & social skills too.

Absence and/or lateness will result in gaps in learning and may mean that a child doesn’t get the best out of his/her time in school.

We know that sometimes, of course, absence is unavoidable. However, we work hard with parents and children to ensure that attendance is as good as possible.

What parents/carers should do:

  • Make sure you child is always on time for school.
  • Schedule appointments (dentists etc) out of school hours if possible.
  • Do not allow your child odd days off for birthdays, shopping, visiting relatives etc.
  • Do not take holidays in term-time. Children get 13 weeks official annual holiday. Note that from September 2013, the Department for Education took away the power of schools to grant leave for term-time leave of absence (except in 'exceptional' circumstances).
  • If absence is unavoidable - for example if your child is ill - please inform the school promptly, on the morning of the first day of absence.

What school will do:

  • We will monitor all attendance closely.
  • We will support you to improve your child’s attendance and punctuality.
  • If we don't hear from you on your child's first day of absence, we will ring you (but we'd prefer it if you rang us!).
  • For families where attendance/punctuality becomes a concern, we will ask parents/carers to come into school to meet with the Family Support Officer.
  • If attendance falls below 90% we will involve the local authority attendance team.
  • We will provide weekly and termly rewards and certificates for good attendance.

Keeping Children Safe Online

Keeping children safe whilst online is essential. For more information about how to keep your child safe when they are using electronic devices whilst at home, please take a look at our Staying Safe Online page within the parents section.

How are we Doing?

We really do appreciate feedback from parents/carers, to find out about how you feel about the school and give you the opportunity to express your views. Do feel free to let us know what has gone well or what would make things even better.

We would also like to encourage parents to update the parent view site, as and when they want to. This is something that Ofsted will look at when they carry out school inspections.
