Welcome to Year One!

In our first term our topic is Bright Lights, Big City.  During this term we will be learning lots of new things in our curriculum and topic work.

In English we will be learning how to write simple sentences using capital letters, finger spaces and full stops- whilst looking at the work of Julia Donaldson.

In Maths we will be learning about place value with numbers up to 100 and addition and subtraction to 20.

In History we will be learning about the Great Fire of London, the Royal Family and our own Family history.

In Geography we will be learning about the UK, it's countries and it's capital cities.

In Art we will be looking at the life and work of the artist L.S. Lowry.

In Music we will be learning how to sing rhymes and chants.

In Design Technology we will be exploring which materials will be the best to create a house from The Great Fire of London.

In Science we will be learning about materials and their properties.

In Computing we will be learning how to make simple algorithms and correcting errors.  

Space to Learn

We visited Space to Learn to begin our topic- Bright Lights Big City!

We went on the 'train' to London and then went on an 'open top bus' to see the London Landmarks.

We completed lots of computing work- giving each other directions to find the different landmarks of London.

MIMA

We visited MIMA to learn about the life and work of L S Lowry.

We made sculptures of Middlesbrough landmarks using junk materials and we made matchstick men and matchstick cats and dogs- just like Lowry!

Royal WOW Day!

We had a Royal WOW day, and we came to school dressed as Queens, Kings, Princesses, Princes, Knights and even Dragons!

We learned all about the Queen and the Royal family, and at the end of the day we had a Royal tea party!
