Grange Primary School

Grow, Persevere, Succeed. Be the best you can be!

Term 2

A Child's War

This term we will be learning about World War 2. The children will develop their knowledge of the events of World War 2 and they will learn about how these events affected children.

English

We are writing about 'Alma' in English in the first half term. The children will either be creating a short story re-telling of Alma or they will be using the video to inspire their own short story.

Here is a Literacy Shed link with the clip.

In the second half term, we are basing lots of our writing on our topic: 'A Child's War'. We will be writing a biography of Churchill, a description of a flight by an RAF pilot and dialogue between a parent and child who are hiding out in their Anderson shelter.

Mindfulness

We are continuing to use mindfulness to help the children to become more conscious of their feelings and thoughts.

Below is a link from the site GoNoodle and images of some of our favourite mindful activities.

Sports Competitions

We have been incredibly proud this term as the children have competed in a number of competitions across the town. These include football, tag rugby, basketball, cross country, swimming and netball. All of the children have represented the school brilliantly and it has been a pleasure to see them take part in so many different activities.

Visitors

Over the course of this term, we have been visited by volunteers from the NSPCC who delivered a talk and then completed a workshop activity with the Year 5 and 6 children. With the help of Buddy the mascot, the children were reminded to 'Speak out and stay safe' by volunteers.

We have also learnt about internet safety in a whole school assembly on Safer Internet Day 2018.
