Grow, Persevere, Succeed. Be the best you can be!

Maths

In Reception we use the NCETM Mastering Number Programme to develop our fluency with number and White Rose Maths resources to develop our knowledge of shape, space and measure.

This half term we will continue to focus on the following skills:

Counting Songs

5 Little Men in a Flying Saucer

1,2,3,4,5 Once I Caught a Fish Alive

5 Big Hippos Balancing

5 Little Speckled Frogs

Showing numbers using our fingers

We have asked the children to show us numbers 1-5 on one hand. We are now asking them to show us these numbers in a different way. Eg. 'Can you show me three using two hands?'

Subitising

This is the skill of being able to say how many objects there are in a set without counting. We often use dice and magnets in lessons but this can be done with any objects. For the example below we would ask, 'What do you see?' (I can see 4 eggs) and 'How do you see it?

(I can see 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom or I can see 2 on one side and 2 on the other side.)

New Learning

Our new learning this half term focuses on how 7 is made in different ways, doubles and odd and even numbers.

Here are some Numberblocks clips you could watch with your child at home which focus on this new learning.

Numberblocks - Double Trouble
