Grange Primary School

Grow, Persevere, Succeed. Be the best you can be!

Term 1

English

In English we have been focusing on writing simple captions and sentences.
We are beginning to use capital letters, full stops and finger spaces in our writing. This term we are trying very hard with our letter formation and practising forming letters and numbers through a variety of different tasks.
We have enjoyed stories from our class author Julia Donaldson such as Stick Man and Room on the Broom which we have used to inspire our writing.
We have also completed some writing which links to our topic, Bright Lights Big City.

Maths

In maths this term, we are first concentrating on numbers up to ten. We will be partitioning these numbers in lots of different ways before moving on to addition and subtraction. We will use lots of practical resources to support our understanding and we will be solving problems and puzzles.

We will also be looking at the properties of 2D and 3D shapes before looking at measure and capacity.

Topic

Our topic this term is 'Bright Lights, Big City'. In Science we are comparing and naming materials and looking at which materials objects are made out of. In Geography we are naming, locating and identifying characteristics of the four countries and capital cities of the United Kingdom. In Art & Design we have created paintings and sketches in the style of Lowry. In Design & Technology we have enjoyed designing and making structures based on London landmarks.
