Reading

Week 1

This week we will read the book 'The Best Diwali Ever' by Sonali Shah which will help us to learn about the Hindu festival of light.

Week 2

In week 2, we are reading 'The Three Billy Goats Gruff' which is a traditional tale.

Week 3

This week we will be reading 'We're Going on a Bear Hunt' by Michael Rosen and Helen Oxbury. This book will help us to revisit auditory patterns and provides great opportunities for oral retelling.

Week 4

As the weather turns colder, we will read the book 'Snowball' and use this as an opportunity to explore seasonal change. This book is written by co-authors Sue Hendra and Paul Linnet and the children enjoy recalling all of the funny things the snowball picks up as he rolls down the hill.

Week 5

With Christmas fast approaching, we will spend week 5 reading Julia Donaldson and Axel Scheffler's 'Stick Man'. This is a great text to develop the children's imagination and creativity as they see all the possible uses for a simple stick.

Week 6

This week, we have enjoyed reading a retelling of the nativity story. The children loved spotting the animals and people from our own nativity performance to parents saying, "That's me...I'm the star!" or recognising all of the animals from our Celebration song.

Week 7

As a special Christmas treat, this week we have launched the book tree! Twice each day we will choose a student to unwrap a fantastic Christmas story.
