Maths

Week 1

This week we started our Maths No Problem work. We started by matching objects by colour and moved on to matching objects by size.

Week 2
This week we continued our work on matching. We matched objects by shape, texture and function. We then moved on to matching by number.

Week 3
In maths this week, we are sorting a range of objects. We used our ability to notice similarities and differences to help us sort by function, orientation, , shape, colour, texture and size.

Week 4

During our main maths lessons, we enjoyed sorting by different criteria and finding the odd one out.  We tried to think of the secret rules people had for sorting shapes and compare bears into different groups.

'Look...medium, medium, medium and this yellow circle is big!'

 

During week 4, we also looked more closely at grouping things by size and height.

Week 5

In week 5, we started our work by investigating the height of some teddy bears and putting them in order from shortest to tallest. We worked in small groups to look at length and find long, longer and the longest piece of string.

Week 6 and 7
During this week, we focused on ABAB repeating patterns. We made patterns vertically, horizontally and in a circle. The children were asked, 'Can you describe the pattern?' and 'What comes first/second/next/last in the pattern?'

Great work copying Mrs Lumley's white cube, pink cube pattern and then linking it to our previous learning. 'Yours is taller and mine is shorter.'

 

Week 8

Our focus towards the end of this half term will be on counting.
