Grow, Persevere, Succeed. Be the best you can be!
This term we are looking at the topic 'A Child's War'. The focus of this topic is World War 2: how it began, the effects of the war on British people (particularly the children) and how it ended.
This term we will focus on the work of our author of the term Michael Morpurgo. We will start by looking at the novel 'Kensuke's Kingdom' in some of our lessons and hopefully find time to move on to 'Shadow' if time allows.
To find out more about Morpurgo's work use the link below.

An extract from 'Kensuke's Kingdom'.
“I heard the wind above me in the sails. I remember thinking, this is silly, you haven't got your safety harness on, you haven't got your lifejacket on. You shouldn't be doing this . . . I was in the cold of the sea before I could even open my mouth to scream.”
Washed up on an island in the Pacific, Michael struggles to survive on his own. With no food and no water, he curls up to die. When he wakes, there is a plate beside him of fish, of fruit, and a bowl of fresh water. He is not alone…
On the last day of term Simon Finch came into Year 6 to talk to us about how to be a digital leader. He gave us some fantastic, practical advice about how to stay safe online.
As a reward for excellent behaviour children in Year 6 visited Clip n Climb in Stockton during the last week of term. After an informative safety talk, the children were able to clip themselves on and off the climbing walls independently. It was brilliant to see how they grew in confidence throughout the morning. A special well done to the children who made it all the way to the top of 'Stairway to Heaven'!
Parent Event
Thank you to all of the parents and carers who came into school on 28th February to celebrate Pancake Day. We hope you were impressed with the topic books and art books the children shared with you as they have worked very hard to produce their fantastic work.
We look forward to seeing you again soon.
World Book Day 2017
Well done to all of our children who celebrated World Book Day 2017 in style by wearing their pyjamas.
We enjoyed drawing scenes from our favourite books. We also completed out D.E.A.R (Drop everything and read) challenge by reading chapter 2 of Kensuke's Kingdom before summarising the chapter. Perhaps the best part of the day was reading our favourite novel whilst drinking some lovely hot chocolate!
PS. Remember the book club will be in school very soon.
