Grow, Persevere, Succeed. Be the best you can be!
Our first topic this term is Bright Lights Big City where we will be the focus for our topic work. In geography we will be focusing on UK counties and cities and looking at London in particular, we will be researching the Royal Family and our own family trees in history and in DT we will be making models of London landmarks. Look out for our Royal WOW day pictures!
In maths we will be looking at place value and addition and subtraction.
In English we are working hard to write simple sentences using capital letters, full stops and finger spaces. Our author of the term is Julia Donaldson and we are enjoying her books, especially the Gruffalo.
In Art we will be looking at the work of Lowry and trying to draw matchstick men in the style of the artist. We will also be practising colour mixing.
We have been looking at the Great Fire of London during our topic lessons and we had some special visitors from palace Green Library. We learnt lots about the fire and used maps to find where it happened, re enacted some of the events and used a special quill pen to write a diary entry just like Samuel Peeps. We have also been working on our paintings of the Great Fire of London during our art lessons.
Year 1 had lots of fun at Halloween, we enjoyed making spooky potions in our maths lessons using our knowledge of number bonds and we enjoyed writing about our potions in English.
We also had lots of fun dressing up and dancing at the school disco!
The children enjoyed being scientists for the day and exploring the school grounds looking for different materials. We also carried out an experiment to see which material would make the best umbrella for our teddy.
We have been enjoying our class trips to Owton Manor Library. The children in Year 1 love to read so we have loved listening to a story and completing a task and choosing books to bring back to school.
