Grow, Persevere, Succeed. Be the best you can be!
In Reception we use the NCETM Mastering Number Programme to develop our fluency with number and White Rose Maths to develop our knowledge of shape, space and measure.
This half term we will be focusing on the following:
Counting songs to help us to count forwards
1,2,3,4,5 Once I Caught a Fish Alive
5 Big Hippos Balancing
Hickory Dickory Dock
Counting songs to help us count backwards
5 Little Speckled Frogs
5 Currant Buns
5 Little Men in a Flying Saucer
Other songs to help us to understand key concepts
5 Little Peas in a Pea Pod Pressed
Heads, Shoulders, Knees and Toes
Finger Numbers to 5
Being able to show finger numbers to 5 shows great number sense and fine motor skills.
Subitising up to 4 Objects
This is the skill of being able to say how many objects there are in a set without counting. We often use dots or magnets (see below) and aske the children. 'What do you see?' and importantly. 'HOW do you see it?' For example looking at the dots below the child might say, 'I can see 2 on the top and 2 on the bottom.' or ' I can see 2 on the side and 2 on the other side.'
