Grange Primary School

Grow, Persevere, Succeed. Be the best you can be!

Science

Our Science Vision

To provide a high-quality science education that inspires pupils and prepares them for future careers in scientific fields.
To develop strong, connected knowledge that enables children to think critically about the world around them and confidently solve problems, including those yet to be discovered.

Science Unit Map and Scientists Map

You will find our science unit map below which shows the units that are taught in each year group. We want our pupils, at Grange, to discover about the work of scientists, therefore we have mapped the scientists each year group will study. This map is included below.

SEND Statement

At Grange Primary, we are committed to a curriculum that places all pupils, regardless of their individual needs, at the heart of everything we do. We promote mutual respect and value each child’s uniqueness, recognising that everyone has something important to contribute.

Our inclusive and engaging curriculum is designed for all learners, providing meaningful and aspirational experiences while supporting personal growth and fostering a lifelong love of learning. Where necessary, the curriculum is carefully adapted to meet the needs of individual pupils. These adaptations are planned and delivered by the class teacher, with support from the SENDCo, assistant SENDCo's and the Science Curriculum Leads.

What does it mean to be a scientist?

Why is it important to understand what it means to be a scientist?

At Grange Primary School, we take our role in broadening pupils’ aspirations seriously, guided by the powerful idea:

Grow, Persevere, Succeed and be the best you can be!

In our local area, many people work in industries such as manufacturing and construction. While we value these important roles, we are also committed to showing pupils a wider range of possibilities. We ensure that children learn about both local job opportunities and a variety of career pathways, including those within science. Throughout our science curriculum, our pupils are encouraged to explore a wide range of scientists to develop their understanding of potential careers in the field of science.

Our Science Principles

Reading in Science

Reading underpins all our curriculum. Key texts have been identified as part of each unit of study to help pupils to learn about key knowledge in Science. Pupils will also be exposed to fiction texts that have a scientific link to broaden their understanding the Science curriculum.
