Grow, Persevere, Succeed. Be the best you can be!
In week 1, the children worked really hard to learn some new counting songs. See the link below for some nursery rhymes that supported the children's counting within 5.
In week 2, we began to look at the skill of subitising. Subitising is when you are able to look at a group of objects and realise how many there are without counting. This works with small numbers.
In week 3, we introduced the topic of matching and the mathematical vocabulary: same and different. The children quickly started noticing and commenting on things in the provision that were the same and different.
During weeks 4-5 we looked at how to sort objects by colour, size and shape.
In week 6, we explored size, mass and capacity. We used mathematical vocabulary small, medium, large, heavy, light, full and empty.
In week 7, we enjoyed exploring simple repeating patterns.
