Year 5

Dear parents/carers,

 

 

During the week 4th- 8th January, we will be completing  the following activities.:

 

Wynyard class

Green group maths- multiplying and dividing by 10 and 100.

Purple maths group- finding factors of numbers and looking at prime numbers.

Red maths group- Adding and subtracting 1 and 10 from numbers up to 100.

 

If you search Education City there will be some games and activities for your child to play and to watch.  TopMarks is also a free site that you can search on for games related to the objectives above.

 

In English and Guided reading lessons we will be recapping Chapters 1-4 of Good Night Mr Tom (there are readings of this on YouTube) and reading chapter 5.  We are focusing on character descriptions and will begin to write a character description of William Beech.

 

In Art, we have been looking at techniques for shading and adding the appearance of texture to drawings.  The following sites are good for this:

In Geography we are looking at Field Work and will be drawing a simple sketch map of the local area around Grange School.

 

In PE we will be looking at the rules for Netball and practising some throwing and catching techniques.

 

In Science, we will be using Oak Academy to look at the parts of a plant.

Welcome to Year 5

We are delighted to be working with the children in Year 5 who are amazing!

 

Our Class Novel this term is Percy Jackson and the Lightning Thief.

 

In English we will be writing a diary entry relating to this text and will also be writing a myth tale supported by weekly Grammar lessons.

 

In Maths we are learning about place value and then addition and subtraction as well as daily arithmetic.

 

 

Our PE days are Tuesday for Class Guisborough and Friday for Class Wynyard.

Work for Self Isolating

 

If you are self isolating work will be send via class dojo the second day that you are not in school but until we have time to send it why don't you try some of these ideas?
