Grow, Persevere, Succeed. Be the best you can be!
Each week, on a Friday, your child will bring home a reading practice book/ home reading book.
This book will be collected on a Thursday so we can exchange it for their new book. Please put this book in your child's book bag each day with their purple reading card so we can celebrate your child reading at home each day.
This book has been carefully matched to your child's current reading level. The children will have read this book at least 3 times in their reading groups so they should be fluent and confident when reading them with you at home. If they are reading it with little/no help, please do not worry. Ensuring children are able to confidently decode the words ensures they can develop fluency, automaticity and confidence in their reading.
Listen to your child read their book. Remember to give them lots of praise - celebrate their success. If they struggle to read a word, give them time and if they cannot manage to read it please read it to them. After they have finished, talk about the book together.
When you listen to your child read, please fill in one line on their purple reading card. When the reading card is full, your child will receive a book prize token to be used in the library vending machine.
Once children have developed a secure phonic understanding and decoding skills, they will move to our Accelerated Reader system. This is a computer based programme that supports children to choose from a wide range of texts which are closely matched to their reading level as well as allowing them to explore their interests and develop their love of reading. AR also supports the development of children’s comprehension skills as children complete online quizzes at the end of each book to help teachers monitor children’s understanding.
To enable us to maintain a wide selection of books in both the reading book and school library, we ask that is a book is lost or damaged you inform us so the book can be replaced. We do ask for a £4 contribution to help towards the cost.
If you have any suggestions for books that should be added to our school stock, please contact Mrs Sinnott or your child’s class teacher on Dojo.
