Grow, Persevere, Succeed. Be the best you can be!
In Reception we use the NCETM Mastering Number Programme to develop our fluency and automaticity with number. We use White Rose Maths resources to develop our knowledge of shape, space and measure.
This half term we will continue to focus on the following skills:
Counting Songs
10 Green Bottles
10 in the Bed
1 Tomato, 2 Tomato
Showing numbers using our fingers
We will ask the children to show us numbers using their fingers on one hand, on two hands and in different ways. We might ask the children to show us 5 on one hand then show us 5 on two hands then show us 5 in a different way on two hands.
Subitising
This is the skill of being how many objects you can see without counting. We are focusing heavily on conceptual subitising. This means the children might look at the pine cones in the picture below and notice, 'I can see 7 pine cones. I can see 6 and 1 more and that makes 7.'
New Learning
We will introduce the rekenrek to the children in this half term as well as looking at umber patterns and visualising, building and mapping in shape, space and measure.
Here are some Numberblocks episodes you could watch at home to focus on their new learning.
