Maths
In Reception we use the NCETM Mastering Number Programme to develop our fluency and automaticity with number. We use White Rose Maths resources to develop our knowledge of shape, space and measure.
This half term we will continue to focus on the following skills:
Counting Songs
10 Green Bottles
10 In the Bed
1 Tomato, 2 Tomato...
Showing numbers using our fingers
We will ask the children to show us numbers on one hand, on two hands and in different ways. This will help them to understand the concept that numbers can be made in different ways.
Subitising
This is the skill of being able to say how many objects you can see without counting. We are focusing heavily on conceptual subitising. This means the children might look at the picture below and say, 'I can see 6 acorns because there are 3 on the top and 3 on the bottom and 3 and 3 makes 6.'
New Learning
Our new learning focuses on how to make numbers to 10 in different ways. We will also look more closely at shape, length and height.
