Grow, Persevere, Succeed. Be the best you can be!
Week 1 - The Number 1
We developed our understanding of the number 1. We practised counting out 1 object by putting one counter on a five frame. We also represented 1 by drawing 1 counter and by writing the numeral 1.
We enjoyed learning more about 1 through Numberblocks.
Week 2 - The Number 2
We developed our understanding of the number 2. We practised counting out two objects by putting 2 counters onto a five frame. We also represented 2 by drawing 2 counters and by writing the numeral 2.
We enjoyed learning more about 2 through Numberblocks.
Week 3 - The Number 3
We developed our understanding of the number 3. We practised counting out 3 objects by putting 3 counters onto a five frame. We also represented 3 by drawing 3 counters and writing the numeral 3.
We enjoyed learning more about 3 through Numberblocks.
Weeks 4 and 5 - Comparing 1, 2 and 3.
Over the course of two weeks, we looked more closely at the relationship between 1,2 and 3. We used mathematical vocabulary bigger and smaller. The children also began to use mathematical stem sentences to develop their understanding of one more and one less such as: 'One more than 2 is 3.' and 'One less than 2 is 1.'
The children were asked to build towers showing 1, 2 and 3. We also did some work in our work books ordering Numberblocks 1, 2 and 3.
Weeks 6 and 7 - The Compostion of 1, 2 and 3
As the children became more confident with their understanding of 1, 2 and 3 we began to look at how the numbers could me made up of or 'composed' from two or more smaller numbers.
Eg - 3 can be made in the following ways:
1 + 1 + 1 = 3
2 + 1 or 1 + 2 = 3
3 + 0 or 0 + 3 = 3
