Caterpillars

Welcome to Grange Primary school !

Caterpillars is a sessional two year old provision that is open during school term time. We are a 30 place provision offering morning and afternoon sessions with a limited number of 30 hour placements which are subject to eligibility. Our Caterpillar team led by Mrs Johnson alongside Ms Stevenson and Ms Rudd who have a wealth of experience and are keen to welcome you to our setting, offering an exciting, creative and warm nursery experience! We work closely alongside the nursery team , sharing their environment for parts of the day, making moving onto nursery (3-4 year old provision) both smooth and familiar. We aim to provide a nursery experience where our children feel safe and happy enabling them to become proud, independent individuals!

You can find out what childcare you are eligible for on the government Childcare Choices website Childcare Choices | 30 Hours Free Childcare, Tax-Free Childcare and More | Help with Costs | GOV.UK

Our morning sessions run from 8:35am until 11:35am and our afternoon sessions run from 12:05pm until 3:05pm Monday to Friday.

For working parents, sessions making up a weekly total of 30 hours are available, although certain criteria have to be met. Sessions start at 8:35am and finish at 3:05pm. Children accessing 30 hour provision remain in nursery for lunchtime, eating their lunch while being supervised by Nursery staff. Children can purchase a school dinner or bring their own packed lunch.

Let's Celebrate!

This half term we have lots to celebrate, beginning with Bonfire night and then Christmas. We will also be supporting Children in need and World nursery rhyme day.

Of course we will  be celebrating each other on reaching our own next steps and goals in Caterpillars through shared special events such as stay and play. parent consultations and  from home through our Class Dojo portfolios.

Marvellous Me

'Marvellous Me' topic helps your two-year-old learn about who they are, how they feel, and their special place in the world. You can support this learning at home in simple, fun ways.

Talk About Themselves

Use a mirror to look at faces and name body parts. Say your child’s name often. Help them recognise what makes them unique.

Share Family Photos

Look at pictures of family members. Name each person and talk about how they’re connected to your child.

Celebrate Their Interests

Ask about favourite toys, colours, and foods. Offer choices to help them show preferences.

Read Together

Choose books about emotions, routines, and the body.

Encourage Independence

Let your child try simple tasks like putting on shoes or brushing teeth. Celebrate these small steps!

Talk About Feelings

Use clear words for emotions: happy, sad, tired, excited. Help them learn how to express how they feel.

Fun Activities to Try:

  • Handprint or footprint painting
  • Sing ‘Head, Shoulders, Knees and Toes’
  • Play ‘Simon Says’ using body parts
  • Draw a picture of your family together

Thank you for helping your child explore how marvellous they are!
